The Best Value Enterprise Hard Drive in 2023

Seagate EXOS X16 14TB

This is our preferred enterprise hard drive for 2023. At the time of writing, it has the lowest price-per-terabyte for any non-OEM enterprise drive. It comes with a 5 year warranty.

We highly recommend registering the drive soon after purchase. Registering will confirm that the drive is covered by Seagate’s warranty and that it is not an OEM or refurbished drive. The links provided here are explicitly for retail drives with Seagate’s warranty. If you receive a drive that is not covered by Seagate, return the drive and report the seller.

Listings for OEM drives can be difficult to spot. For instance, this listing on Newegg appears to be for a retail drive, however, if we dig into the Q&A (see screenshot below), we find that it is not. The reseller may claim that they offer their own warranty, but this is risky as these companies are typically short-lived small businesses based in China.

Amazon’s price has been consistently the lowest. We have purchased dozens of these drives and they have all been good retail drives. One drive failed within warranty. The RMA process was normal and painless. We shipped the drive back in the retail box using the original packing including the opened antistatic bag. The replacement was received about a week later. Registering the replacement drive worked and the warranty date was accurately reflected in Seagate’s registration page.
